Askew currently works as an aide to Supervisor Jane Parker and is an MPUSD Trustee. She said she has spent a decade representing Monterey County cities. As a school board member, she says she works toward safe, healthy schools and qualty teachers, and as an aide, she said she has expanded programs at Natividad and other health clinics.

Askew said she considers social equity, economic recovery and job creation to be some of her top priorities. Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, she said she has convened weekly sessions for updates, distributed thousands of masks and free meals and connected people with resources. She said she believes every resident should have access to food and housing support they need and will work towards helping the local economy recover from the effects of the pandemic.

McShane is a three term council member with fifteen years of small business experience. As a council member, he said he has been a part of poliies and incentives to build more than 1,400 housing units. He has also spent four years as a Trustee at Hartnell Community College.

He says his top priorities include housing, working toward an end to homelessness, supporting schools and recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. McShane says he has prioritized a Housing First initiative and will equip students for distance learning and outdoor education. He also proposes establishing a county COVID-19 task force with members focusing on small business recovery, funding for schools, working with agricultural workers and healthcare.
