Halloween plans adjusted during coronavirus pandemic

Spirit Halloween

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) - Some people plan on sticking with their Halloween traditions, while others are changing the way they celebrate this year because of Covid-19 concerns.

The Spirit Halloween store in Salinas is packed with party decorations and costumes, but the amount of customers in the store was still scarce.

Karla from Salinas was shopping with her partner and they were quick to say they weren't doing much on Halloween besides staying at home and watching some scary movies.

Karla is also pregnant, so she says she's being extra cautious about the health of her baby during a global pandemic.

Besides some people who plan on still hitting the streets for some tricks and treats, many parents along the Central Coast have voiced their ideas about what to do this year with their kids including: candy hunts, piñatas, family pumpkin carvings, and scary movie nights.

Wednesday, L.A. County public health officials reversed their Trick-or-Treating ban from a day earlier, saying instead the activity is now "not recommended."

Santa Cruz County Health Department says they are currently focused on wildfire efforts and do not have an answer at this time about a county health order for Halloween.

The Monterey County Health Department County tells KION it isn’t ready to make a statement yet about Halloween.

Meanwhile, the San Benito County Health Department tells KION in a statement: "We are waiting for guidance from the California Department of Public Health / State of California and we will disseminate that information to our community members as soon as we can."
