WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION) A resolution for the Ramsay Park Pump track plans, construction and 20-year maintenance contract with Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz has been approved, according to Watsonville City Councilmember Felipe Hernandez.

Hernandez said it will be the largest asphalt pump track in California. It is expected to include three sub-tracks that connect for all rider levels.

The project is fully funded by donations, according to Hernandez.

The Watsonville City Council report said the in-ground state park at Ramsay Park opened in May 2016, and after that, mountain bikers approached the Parks and Community Services Department about creating a bicycle pump track.

In 2019, staff worked with Verde Design to create a master plan for the park that included replacing the old skate park with a pump track.

The City Council said the tracks are usually made with compacted soil, but this one will be made with asphalt so it is more durable and lasts longer.

Salinas City Councilmember Scott Davis said he and Monterey County Supervisor Luis Alejo are committed to bringing a similar project to Salinas.
