Felton Fire Engineer recognized by Starbucks for volunteer service

FELTON, Calif. (KION) The Felton Fire Protection District said its Fire Engineer, Renee Fenker, was recognized for her volunteer service.

Fenker works full time as a store manager at a Santa Cruz Starbucks, but has been with the volunteer fire department for more than six years as well, sometimes doing back-to-back shifts.

She was chosen to be recognized out of thousands, but the department was also awarded a $2,500 grant. The Felton Fire Protection District said grants and donations like this one help them to buy items such as the cordless "jaws of life," portable public safety radios, firefighter uniforms and more.

The department's annual fundraising drive, the Mother's Day pancake breakfast, was canceled due to COVID-19.
