Posted: Updated:

GILROY, Calif. - The Gilroy Police Department is asking for the public's help in solving a New Year's Eve homicide.

Police say they responded to the area of Old Gilroy Street and Alexander Street around 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2013 and found 52-year-old Elpidio Morales, Jr. lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

Morales was pronounced dead as he was being transported to a Bay Area hospital.

Police say a dark-colored sedan was seen rapidly fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting. It's not known if the sedan or the people inside it were involved with the homicide; however detectives are working to identify the vehicle and its occupants to determine their involvement, if any, with this investigation.

Gilroy Police are urging anyone with information regarding this case to contact Detective Michael Bolton at (408) 846-0350. People who would like to remain anonymous can call We-Tip at 1-800-782-7463 (800-78-Crime).
