MARINA, Calif. - It's time to get muddy! An estimated 2,500 runners will get "down and dirty" in the 8th annual Big Sur Mud Run this Saturday, March 23rd.
The Mud Run is a 5.3 mile, road and trail run, punctuated with four mud pits, physical obstacles and military drill sergeants. Individual races begin at 8 a.m. followed by team competitors at 10 a.m.
The race start line is in the parking area near Freeman Stadium, Cal State University Monterey Bay (near intersection of 2nd Avenue and 1st Street, in Seaside). Runners wind through the CSUMB campus and back county trails on FORA-owned land, encountering mud pits and obstacles along the way.
This event is most popular with the ‘younger demographic' (20s and 30s). The registered field is 54% female and 46% male, with runners primarily from throughout California, and 14 additional states represented.
In order to qualify as a team, all members must cross the finish line with linked arms!
Big Sur's Mud Run is one of top three mud runs in the U.S. to involve military as a key element of the event. Personnel are from 229 Military Intelligence Battalion, Marine Detachment-DLI and officers from the Naval Postgraduate School.
