KING CITY, Calif. - The King City Police Department says it has contacted an arson investigator to look at a burned out car that may be connected to Friday night's shooting that left a special needs student dead.
Officers found the car engulfed in flames near Highway 101 and Teague Avenue later that night.
Police say 18-year-old Matthew Torres was shot after shielding his sister from gunfire on Pearl Street. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
The arson investigator is expected to look at the vehicle Tuesday afternoon to see if there's any evidence that can be used in the homicide investigation.
Police say they have not received any tips, calls or leads that could help them make an arrest.
Officers continue to patrol Torres' school. So far, no issues have been reported at the campus.
Torres' family says they will hold services for him on Friday, March 22, from 10 a.m. to noon, at St. John's Church in King City. There will then be a celebration of life right after the services. His family tells us he will be cremated.
