Police: Burned Car May Be Connected To King City Homicide

Posted: Updated:

KING CITY, Calif. - King City police say they have found a car that may be connected to a shooting that left a special needs student dead.

Police say the car -- which was reported stolen out of Greenfield -- was found engulfed in flames.

Investigators say the shooting happened late Friday night along Pearl Street. They said a black sedan pulled up and opened fire.

Matthew Torres, 18, was hit several times. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Torres' family says he was shielding his sister as he was shot.

Anyone with information on this homicide investigation is asked to call the King City Police Department at 831-385-4848.

A memorial fund has been set up for Matthew to help pay for funeral costs. The family told Central Coast News since they recently moved to the area from Southern California they don't have enough money to bury their son. They plan on hosting a couple car washes to raise money for a memorial service.

If you'd like you help, donations are being accepted at the Chase Bank in King City in Matthew Torres' name.
