SALINAS, Calif.--Police have arrested three people for a carjacking just before 8:30 Saturday night at Tuscany Way and Cassino Way.
The victim says he had just parked his Lincoln Navigator when two Hispanic males wearing all black clothing approached his car.
One of the suspects allegedly hit the driver's side window with the butt of a rifle and ordered the victim out or he would shoot him. The victim got out of his vehicle and ran away.
The vehicle was last seen driving away on Montebella Blvd. Officers placed a countywide Be On the Lookout broadcast for the vehicle and suspects. A few minutes later, a sheriff's deputy spotted it traveling on Crazy Horse Canyon Rd. The vehicle stopped near Highway 101. All three occupants fled on foot.
Monterey County Joint Task Force officers assisted with an area check and found the three suspects hiding deep in poison oak nearby. They also located the loaded .22 cal. rifle which had been used in the crime. Arrested were Isidro Zavala (22), a 17 year old male, and a 14 year old male. Zavala was identified as the suspect with the gun during the carjacking. He was booked into county jail for several crimes, including carjacking, gun and gang-related charges, resisting arrest, and violation of parole. The two juveniles were booked into Juvenile Hall.
