KING CITY, Calif. - Three suspects were arrested Friday morning in connection with a robbery at the Central Coast Federal Credit Union in King City.
Fabian Lemus, 20, Santiago Rodriguez, 19, and a 17-year-old boy were all taken into
custody and charged with armed robbery, conspiracy, possession of a
stolen weapon, carjacking, various gang enhancements and parole
violations.
Shortly before 11 a.m., King City police were dispatched to the credit union in the 1500 block of Canal Street regarding a silent robbery alarm. When they arrived, officers found two males getting into a white BMW in the area. Police say the males were acting suspicious and attempted to avoid the officers.
CHP and King City police followed the car as it drove into the Burger King parking lot at a high rate of speed. Police say two of the three suspects got out of the BMW and fled on foot. Both were arrested in the creek bed near Highway 101.
Police say the vehicle then took off northbound on Canal from the Burger King parking lot and onto the highway at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle then crossed the center divider and started going the wrong way in the southbound lane of Highway 101.
According to police, the vehicle stopped and the driver got out and tried to carjack an occupied vehicle in the Taco Bell parking lot. That third suspect was also taken into custody.
All three suspects are from the King City area. The two
adults were lodged in the Monterey County Jail and the juvenile was
lodged into juvenile hall.
Investigators say a subsequent search of the immediate area revealed the weapon used during the armed robbery and a large amount of cash.
The employees of the credit union were shaken but not hurt. One King City officer sustained minor injuries during the foot pursuit. None of the suspects were injured as a result of the chase and arrest.
