SEASIDE, Calif. - A day after officers with the San Jose Internet Crime Against Children Task Force arrested a teacher from Martin Luther King Elementary School in Seaside on child pornography charges, police say the teacher tried to overdose on drugs.
San Jose police said they received a call around 4:42 p.m. Thursday from Nathan Forsteel's partner that he may have possibly overdosed. Medical crews got to his house. He was taken to a hospital and placed on a 72-hour mental health hold. He will be in the hospital for up to 72 hours, depending on what medical staff determine.
Forsteel has been part of an ongoing investigation concerning child pornography.
Officials from the school posted a letter to parents on their website, which reads in part:
"Principal Laurie Bloom-Sweeney and district staff will be available to parents throughout the day Thursday... to address any concerns."
Forsteel just started working for the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District this year, before that he worked as a substitute in San Jose.
Police say he downloaded thousands of images of child pornography on his computer, but do not believe there are any local victims.
