DEL REY OAKS, Calif.- The lights were back on Wednesday night for some 5,000 PG&E customers who were left in the dark for several hours that morning.

Many people said they saw the lights flicker in their homes and apartments as far away as Pacific Grove.

An underground equipment failure near Canyon Del Rey Road in Del Rey Oaks is to blame for the outage, that stretched to Highway 68. Safeway employees said they could see smoke, as the lights went out.
