Castroville High School Band Heading To China

Posted: Updated:

CASTROVILLE, Calif. -- A marching band on the Central Coast is getting ready to strut their stuff overseas.

70 students from North Monterey County High School are getting ready to perform in five cities in China tomorrow.

"They actually will on a couple of occassions feel like rock stars because the people there are so gracious. They really love hearing live music," said D.L. Johnson, director of bands for North Monterey County High School.

The school is the first American high school band to ever perform in South Central China.

The shows are sold out.

"The realization just kicked in," said Sachi Taniguchi, student. "Everyone is like freaking out. It's pretty awesome."

This is the fourth year the marching and concert bands are heading to China.

The trip is paid for by the students themselves and grants.
