One Person Rescued From Ocean, Off 17-Mile Drive

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - Pebble Beach Fire/CAL FIRE rescued one person from the water near 17 Mile Drive in Pebble Beach, just after 4:00 Monday afternoon.

The call came in that a person near the rocks was heard yelling from the 18th hole. Upon arrival, firefighters found the victim in the rocks, requiring rescue. For the safety of both the rescuers and the victim, a rope system was used to haul the patient to safety and to keep the rescuers tethered to the shore.

The patient was transferred by Carmel Ambulance to the Community Hospital of Monterey County.  No information has been released on their condition. 

Pebble Beach responded with an engine and a truck company to the incident, with assistance from Cypress Fire Protection District (FPD), Carmel Highlands FPD, Monterey County Sheriff's Department, US Coast Guard, California State Parks, Carmel Ambulance, and CAL FIRE. There were a total of 2 engines, one truck, and 1 rescue boat from fire agencies, with about 15 firefighters on scene. 

Pebble Beach CSD, Cypress FPD, and Carmel Highlands FPD partner in cooperative agreements with CAL FIRE for fire services. Pebble Beach CSD staffs two engines in its district 24/7 with four firefighters per engine, one of whom is a paramedic on each engine. Pebble Beach CSD also staffs one ladder truck in its district 24/7 with three firefighters.

Cypress FPD staffs two engines in its district 24/7 with four firefighters per engine, one of whom is a paramedic on each engine. Carmel Highlands FPD staffs one engine in its district 24/7 with three firefighters, one of whom is a paramedic.
