NORTHBROOK, Ill., March 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Intelligent Medical Objects, Inc. (IMO), developer of the most widely-used and physician-preferred terminology service for electronic heath records systems, announced today that Eric Rose, M.D., F.A.A.F.P., Director of Clinical Terminology at IMO, has been appointed to the United States Health Information Technology Standards Committee (HITSC).  HITSC is a federal advisory committee that provides guidance to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology on standards, implementation specifications, and certification criteria for the electronic exchange and use of health information.  The appointment of Dr. Rose was made by Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius on March 1, 2013.

"I am honored to have been appointed by Secretary Sebelius to HITSC," said Dr. Rose.  "As a practicing physician and clinical informaticist, I hope to bring a perspective to the committee that blends real-world experience with an understanding of the technical underpinnings of health information technology."  Dr. Rose added, "I am particularly enthusiastic about the prospects of improving the experiences of clinicians and health care consumers around health care terminology, which is my main area of professional focus.  With the right tools and standards, we can allow clinicians and patients to use language that is meaningful to them and still generate health information that is semantically enabled.  Both of these are critical to positive transformation of health care."

Frank Naeymi-Rad, Ph.D., MBA, IMO Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, "We are thrilled that Dr. Rose's contributions to healthcare terminology have been recognized with the appointment to this very important Committee. IMO is deeply committed to improving the delivery of health care and we take great pride in the work we've done.  Dr. Rose embodies the high standards we've set for our people, products and services."

At IMO, Dr. Rose directs the work of a team of clinicians involved in creating and maintaining comprehensive health care terminologies.  Dr. Rose is also a practicing family physician and a faculty member in the Departments of Biomedical Informatics and Family Medicine at the University of Washington.
