SACRAMENTO, Calif. - There's yet another way to fund agricultural education initiatives on the Central Coast and throughout California.  Special interest Agriculture license plates are now available.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles will issue the plates after they receive 7,500 paid orders.

To get the plates, it will cost a little bit on top of the normal registration fees.

For special plates with random numbers and letters, chosen by the DMV, is $50, and $40 to renew them each year.

If you want personalized plates, there's a maximum of six characters.  Those cost $98, and $78 to renew them each year.

The Department of Motor Vehicles keeps a small portion as a processing fee, then sends the rest out to ag programs across the state.

Proponents of the new program call the funds a flexible way to bring in revenue, while promoting agricultural education in California.
