50 Mile Police Chase Ends in Greenfield

CASTROVILLE, Calif.--Monterey County Sheriffs' deputies tried to pull over a silver Toyota RAV 4 around 11:30 last night for running a red light at the intersection of Merritt Street and Salinas Street in Castroville.  The vehicle was found to be stolen.

The driver failed to stop and led deputies on a high-speed chase through Castroville and into Salinas, at times reaching speeds of more than 120 miles an hour.

The driver then got onto Highway 101 going south. Deputies put up spike strips and were able to stop the car.  The chase lasted 30 minutes and spanned more than 50 miles.

The driver is a juvenile and was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm as well as being a known gang member.

He was booked into the Monterey County Juvenile Hall on numerous weapons violations, felony evading, and gang-related charges.
