SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Firefighters confirmed with Central Coast News they were on scene of a bus fire around 5:30 Friday evening.
Fire crews say the Santa Cruz Metro bus was traveling south on Capitola Road and 41st Avenue with about 20 people on board, when the driver saw smoke in rear view mirror. The bus was quickly stopped and everyone got off, then flames started coming from the back engine compartment.
Central Coast News is told the bus driver and some passengers tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, with no luck.
The flames were eventually put out when fire crews arrived.
