MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Peninsula Regional Violence and Narcotics Team said there has been an increase of heroin use and sales on the Monterey Peninsula. Six people were arrested in connection with possessing narcotics and selling heroin in a recent drug sting.
Police said the Monterey Transit Plaza was one of the places where heroin was sold. Police said for two weeks they conducted multiple purchases with local drug dealers who were selling heroin. Investigators were able to track down drug dealers in Seaside, Monterey, Marina and Castroville.
Officer seized two rifles, ammunition, heroin and meth during all of their arrests. Investigators said Cody Esquivel of Seaside was arrested for selling heroin, Timothy Murray of Marina and Castroville was arrested for weapons violations and possessing meth and heroin to sell, Sepehr Makki of Pacific Grove was arrested for offering to sell heroin, Joseph Sampagnaru of Monterey was arrested for possession of heroin for sales, Morgan Ferguson of Carmel was arrested for possession of heroin with intent to sell it, and Mike Sobel of Seaside was arrested for possession of meth and heroin to sell.
Investigators said they're still reviewing two more suspects who may be charged with possession of heroin and being under the influence of the drug.
