PHOENIX, Ariz.- Jodi Arias, a Salinas native who once worked at one of the hotels in Big Sur, testified again Wednesday in a Phoenix courtroom in her own defense after being accused of murdering her ex-lover in 2008.
Arias testified that Travis Alexander was chasing her that fateful day and she shot him in self defense when he grabbed her. She said she doesn't remember the stabbing that followed, which according to the autopsy, is what killed him. Her story has changed several times before. She described for jurors how the victim's rage was escalating, and how she never planned to kill him.
Jodi Arias has spent more than a week detailing the events that to Travis Alexander's death in June 2008 at his Mesa, Arizona home. By the end of the defense attorney's questioning on Wednesday, CBS reports Arias explained why she decided to come forward with the truth about what happened the day she killed Alexander.
Prosecutors must prove she planned the killing to secure a first-degree murder conviction and the death penalty.
She claims the killing was self-defense after Alexander attacked her. Prosecutors say she killed in a jealous rage.
