PRETORIA, South Africa - Oscar Pistorius, the famous double-amputee Olympic sprinter, was back in court Wednesday for the second day of his bail hearing. Pistorius has been charged with premeditated murder of his 29-year-old, model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
Steenkamp was shot to death in their home outside of the nation's capitol on Valentine's Day. Pistorius was arrested but has continued to claim that the killing was by mistake after he believed the person in the bathroom was an intruder.
On Tuesday, the model was laid to rest in her hometown of Port Elizabeth and the same day, Pistorius read an 11-page statement submitted to the courts.
According to CBS, prosecutors told the courts that witnesses heard screaming and gunshots more than a half of a mile away from their home. However, the sprinter's defense attorneys said the same witness is giving conflicting reports to the evidence.
Investigators also said they found needles and testosterone inside the home, which led to the speculation that the runner was using performance-enhancing substances. Those rumors were denied by the defense attorney, who claims it is a legal herbal substance.
