SALINAS, Calif.- Mother Nature is reminding us that winter isn't over yet.
After near record high temperatures Friday. with plenty of sunshine again on Saturday, Monday brought the ominous clouds and cooler winds, foreshadowing a cold winter storm that will bring rain later this week and snow in lower than usual elevations. The Tuesday morning commute is expected to be wet, but the National Weather Service said it now appears that most of the precipitation will fall from late Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon. NWS forecasters said the heaviest precipitation is expected to occur in the Santa Lucia mountains of Monterey County. Thunderstorms will also be possible on Tuesday, mainly over the ocean.
Rain will fall again on Thursday with chance of thundershowers.
As the low moves south Tuesday afternoon, skies will gradually clear, but the cool temperatures will remain.
Rainfall totals will generally be light ranging from 0.25" up to 0.60" in some of the mountain areas. With the cold air the snow level will drop by Tuesday afternoon to 2500 feet.
Another weather system will weaken and drop down the coast on Thursday and could bring a few showers to the Central Coast.
