City of Salinas Revamping Its Website

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif. -- The City of Salinas has not had a webmaster in a few months, so that means their website has not been updated in some time.

The way things are now, nothing can be done from online. But soon, simple tasks like renewing business licenses to getting a garage sale permit can all be done online. It's a change that the city hopes will cater to residents and businesses.

Right now, the website has the basics, but City Councilwoman Kimbley Craig said its time for a change.

"Currently our city's website is antiquated," said Craig.

That is why the city is taking the site's look and changing it completely.

"Putting your best foot forward and having your best game face, part of that in modern day technology is having a really great website," said Craig.

The new website will identify properties available for potential businesses to open in, highlight areas of economic development and growth and even offer a "Size-Up" program for existing local businesses. This program will offer small businesses low interest loans to expand their business.

"Part of that is how the city can help with funding. If you want to expand or modernize your current business, your existing business. Part of that is in job creation, part of that is making sure that our current businesses here in Salinas, those Mom and Pops shops, succeed," said Craig.

Craig said these new services will also help with the work load at City Hall.

"We are on a skeleton crew anyway at City Hall, so recognizing that we can take some of the work load off and be able to put some of the easy stuff online. Why not do that?" said Craig.
