Bay Area Man Arrested For Threatening State Senator

Posted: Updated:

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- A state lawmaker from San Francisco is vowing to press ahead with gun control legislation despite a threat on his life.

Leland Yee says he received an email four weeks ago from someone vowing to assassinate him if he didn't stop pushing gun control legislation.

On Tuesday, 45-year-old Everett Gresham was arrested in Santa Clara County in connection to the threat. Authorities say they found weapons and bomb-making materials in Gresham's home. They immediately detonated the explosives in front of the home.

Yee says the emailer claimed he was a trained sniper and that he detailed how he would stalk Yee and carry out the assassination. Yee says he hasn't asked for extra security and says the threat won't stop him from pursuing gun control legislation.
