PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.- Just a few drops of rain fell early Thursday morning under gray skies, but no "Crosby weather" yet for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am as the day shaped up to be another picture perfect day for golfers and spectators alike.
Pebble Beach Vice President of Golf RJ Harper said thousands of staff and volunteers work hard to pull off this event, by making sure golfers get to their tee times on time, there are no traffic delays or power outages. But when it comes to the weather, it all boils down to luck and keeping fingers crossed. Harper said a wet December led to a dry January, which helped keep the grounds dry.
"For the first time in many moons, the tournament is set up under firm, fast conditions, the green is hard, the fairways are running hard, and it's the kind of golf course people love to play, instead of a wet one, which the ball can pick up mud and it can slow things down," said Harper.
The tournament, part of the PGA Tour, continues through Sunday, with a purse of $6.5 million.
