Santa Cruz Derby Girls Get a New Home

Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Derby Girls have a new home, after announcing Thursday that the league will move to Kaiser Permanente Arena for their 2013 competitive season.

The arena, at 140 Front Street, has been the home of the Santa Cruz Warriors NBA D-League Basketball team. The move to the 33,000 square foot arena allows the Derby Girls to make significant changes in the way they play roller derby, as well as the way their fans enjoy it.

The seating capacity will increase to 2,500 from 1,100 (at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium), with most bouts utilizing 1,700 seats.  Also, new ticketing structure will offer three levels of season tickets, group ticketing, lower ticket price options from previous seasons, and an overall single ticket price range of $12-$28 (fees will apply).

Seating options will now include all reserved seating in three tiers - Premiere Seat-Back seats, Bleacher seats, and exciting VIP Track-side seats.

Central Coast News is also told a regulation-sized track will allow WFTDA (Womens Flat Track Derby Association) sanctioned bouts to be attended by Santa Cruz derby fans for the first time.

All three adult teams (Boardwalk Bombshells, Harbor Hellcats, Seabright Sirens) will play at Kaiser Permanente Arena, as well as the junior teams within the Santa Cruz Derby Groms (Gromshells and Sassies).

The 2013 Season Home Opener will be Saturday, March 16th pitting the Boardwalk Bombshells against the Sin City Rollergirls. The first jam starts at 7:30pm.

Tickets will go live the week of February 18th, through TicketReturn.com.  Tickets and updates will also be available through the SCDG web site: www.santacruzderbygirls.org
