APTOS, Calif. -- Santa Cruz County Sheriff's deputies made an arrest of an armed robber who targeted a woman at the Bay Federal Credit Union ATM machine. Officers arrested 20-year old Miguel Angel Hernandez, and are still looking for a second suspect involved.
It happened along the 100 block of Post Office Drive in Aptos on January 24th.
Deputies said the victim was finishing a transaction at the ATM when she said two men came up to her and threatened her with a gun. Officers said both men were dressed in all black and wearing ski masks. Investigators said the suspects held the gun to the victims head and demanded money. Officers said the victim got money out of the ATM and gave it to the two suspects who took off running after they got the cash.
Investigators began combing through surveillance video from the robbery, and recognized one of the suspects in distinct clothing and physical characteristics. Officers were able to identify one of the suspects, Miguel Hernandez, initially as a person of interest.
On February 4th sheriff's deputies went to Hernandez's home, matched him to the suspect on the surveillance video and arrested him for the armed robbery.
Hernandez is currently being held in the Santa Cruz County Jail with on a $150,000 bail. He is set to be arraigned in court on February 6th.
Officers are still working to identify the second suspect in the armed robbery. Anyone with information is asked to call 831-471-1121.
