Two Known Gang Members Arrested After Police Catch Them Driving a Stolen Car

SALINAS, Calif. -- Police arrest two known gang members on multiple charges after catching them driving a stolen car.

It happened Monday night just before 8:30 p.m. Officers said they found a Honda Accord that was reported stolen near Main Street and Boronda. Police said two people were inside the car and were driving northbound on Main Street and entered an apartment on the 2200 block of North Main.

Gang Task Force members helped with the traffic stop and arrested 36-year old Israel Cota and 23-year old Troy Garland.  

Both suspects were taken to the Monterey County Jail. Garland is charged with stealing a car, possession of burglary tools, and a probation violation. Cota was on parole and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Police said both of the suspects are known gang members and both also face gang enhancement charges.
