Santa Cruz Gears Up for 5th Annual Prom Dress Drive

Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- The City of Santa Cruz is preparing for their big prom dress drive event for 2013.

The city planning committee said they're looking for people to donate prom dressed during February, March and April. They've been holding this event for the past five years. City leaders said due to a rough economy some students aren't able to afford to go to prom.

Santa Cruz city officials said they're working with several local schools to help students attend this year's prom. They're asking people to donate gently used prom dresses to less fortunate students. Last year over 1,500 dresses were donated plus jewelry, and other accessories. Classic Vapor Cleaners are also working with the schools and the city to provide free cleaning services for the dresses they receive.
