Gun Training Proposed For Teachers, Administrators, Janitors - Central Coast News KION/KCBA

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A new plan to arm teachers and other staff on California's school campuses was introduced at the State Capitol Wednesday. 

The proposed legislation would authorize school districts to use general funds to train and qualify teachers, administrators, even janitors to carry concealed firearms on campus.

Republican Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, well-known as a gun rights advocate, says his plan calls for anyone who volunteers for the program to become school marshals, not unlike air marshals.
Current state law already allows school staff to carry concealed weapons under certain conditions. Donnelly's bill would give schools the go-ahead to fund their training. He says potential marshals would go though a rigorous training and permit process and that no one would know who is carrying a gun.

Donnelly's idea stems from the school shooting in Connecticut where teacher Vicky Soto died protecting her first-graders.
