SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Three federal judges have ruled that state
officials can have six more months to reduce the inmate population,
which is part of AB 109, prison realignment.
The judges did not
that California officials said they cannot meet the June 30 court
deadline to reduce the prison population to 137.5 percent of design
capacities.
Officials believe they can hit this mark by December 31.
This comes three weeks after Governor Jerry Brown declared California's prison overcrowding crisis over.
