WASHINGTON D.C. -- CBS is reporting that John Kerry was formally confirmed to succeed Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.
The Senate made the unanimous decision on Tuesday. Kerry served 28 years in the Senate, and was a candidate for president back in 2004. He also served four years as a chair on the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee.
Votes to assign Kerry to the Secretary of State position were 94 to 3. The people who voted against Kerry as Secretary of State were Senators John Cornyn, R-Texas; Ted Cruz, R-Texas; James Inhofe, R-Okla.
CBS is reporting that Kerry could be sworn into office by Friday, which is Hillary Clinton's last day of work.
