SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Sheriff deputies said 49-year old Yolanda Smith of Oakland was arrested by Fairfield police after allegedly posing as a doctor and stealing credit cards from hospital staff at Dominican Hospital.
Officers said the theft in Santa Cruz happened earlier in January. Investigators said Smith entered Dominican Hospital dressed in a lab coat, impersonating a doctor. Police said she got into a secured lunch area and stole several employee credit cards from purses and wallets.
Police said Smith used the stolen cards at Best Buy, Target and gas stations charging up to $4,500.
Investigators believe Smith burglarized several other hospitals in Daly City, Tracy, Modesto, Gilroy, Walnut Creek, Fairfield and Santa Cruz County. Police said during each of the incidents Smith was wearing a white lab coat impersonating a doctor. They said on January 22nd she was spotted by a hospital security guard and arrested by Fairfield Police Department.
Investigators are in the process of closing the investigation.
