Three People Arrested in Connection to Brazil Club Fire

Posted: Updated:

SANTA MARIA, Brazil -- Brazilian police announced Monday they've made three arrests in connection with a nightclub fire that killed more than 230 people Sunday.

According to CNN, the owner of the Kiss Club Elissandro Sphor, was arrested at a hospital in Cruz Alta, Brazil. The network also reports a vocalist from the band and a person in charge of stage safety for the band were also arrested. Police in Brazil said they are seeking a fourth person in connection to the blaze.

Officials said the fire killed at least 232 people, and that the death toll could climb higher as more than 100 people are still being treated at local hospitals. Witnesses said a flare or possibly even fireworks lit by band members may have started the blaze. Officials said the exact cause is still under investigation, but police believe the band is the likely cause of the fire, and they are considering manslaughter charges.
