Silicon Valley Gives Salinas Valuable Budget Tool

Posted: Updated:

SALINAS, Calif.- The City of Salinas is using the Silicon Valley to help make its budget more transparent and more easily accessible to the public.

Delphi Solutions, a Silicon Valley developer of "good government" software, announced the deployment of a platform that visualizes the city's financial data.

A city news release this week said, "through the partnership, the City of Salinas will provide its employees and citizens with a unique ability to access, understand, analyze, and share the city's budget."

Finance Director Matt Pressey initiated the partnership in an effort to open up government administration to the people of Salinas, according to the release.

The City invites residents and the business community to explore the new tool, which can be accessed at salinas.delphi.us

"With Delphi Transparency, our citizens will be able to see where their money is being spent with the click of a button," said Mayor Joe Gunter in the city news release.

Creators said the public, and even city officials, will more easily access complex financial data.

The new transparency tool provides five years of City's financial information. Using a filtering menu, users can interact with the data and create charts of exactly the slice of data most useful to them. Customizable views can be exported as a graphic file for use in presentations and documents. Additionally, all views can be exported in a spreadsheet format so that further analysis can be performed. The tool makes City financial data more understandable, accessible and valuable for a wide range of stakeholders.
