Awareness By Two Watsonville Kids For Organ Donations Going Viral

Posted: Updated:

WATSONVILLE, Calif. -- On Tuesday, while sitting under the shade in a Watsonville park, Robbie and Jazzy Carroll hold on to a picture of their father, Patrick. It's a memory of the three together, they will never let go of.

"It was at the donate walk last year," said Robbie of the picture.

Patrick was born with a Congenital Heart Defect and the only chance for survival was a transplant, which he got last March. But a month later, Patrick died for unknown reasons.

"We knew it could happen, but we weren't hoping it would. We were hoping for the better," said 14-year old Robbie.

However, that one healthy month the kids spent with their father was the happiest they've ever been.

"I was really excited that my Dad got a donor. Because I wanted him to live," said 10-year old Jazzy.

Since then, their mission was to spread that happiness and possibility to others through raising awareness.

Robbie and Jazzy said that after they saw the trend online, where kids post pictures asking for 1-million "likes" so they could get a puppy, cat or bunny.

Instead Robbie and Jazzy decided to do something different.  On Monday at 3:33 PM the two posted a picture of themselves holding up a sign reading, "We aren't asking for a puppy, cat or bunny. We want 1 million likes for awareness for organ donations and congenital heart defects.

And since they hit post, their movement went viral. In a matter of 24 hours.

"240, 801 likes" counted Robbie. That number keeps on growing. Last time Central Coast News checked on Wednesday afternoon, that number doubled to over 440,000 "likes."

"It feels like we are doing something right. Like we are helping out the community, the world," said Robbie.

Making their father proud in the process.

"Oh, yeah very proud," said Samantha Carroll, mother of the two.
