MONTEREY, Calif. -- The California Association of Winegrape Growers honored Monterey winegrape grower, Steve McIntyre, as its 2013 Grower of the Year.

The association said this is highest honor given by CAWG.  They said McIntyre received the award for his innovative ideas and success in growing crops.

McIntyre first purchased his 80-acre estate in the San Lucia Highlands and created McIntyre Estate Vineyard. The California Association said McIntyre's vineyard features some of the oldest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines.

The Grower of the Year award will be presented at the California Association of Winegrape Growers annual meeting on January 29th in Sacramento.
