MONTEREY, Calif. -- The City of Monterey announced the fire department received a $1.5 million grant from the federal government to hire more firefighters.
The grant was for the 'Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response.' The grant was given by the Department of Homeland Security. The grant is going to provide the fire department with funding for base salaries and benefits for six more firefighters over the next two years.
Monterey Fire has a shared fire protection services program with other cities like Pacific Grove and Carmel-by-the-Sea.
The Monterey Fire Department will start accepting online applications starting January 28th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on their website monterey.org/hr. Candidates applying will need to submit copies of all certifications by February 1st in person at the Monterey County Conference Center.
