Search For Missing Puppies After Mom Found Alone

Posted: Updated:

MARINA, Calif.-  The SPCA for Monterey County is asking for your help locating a dog's puppies after SPCA officials rescued the golden retriever in the intersection of General Jim Moore and Lightfighter Drive on Jan 15.

The dog, named Molly by the SPCA, is approximately two years old and was found alone, very thin. She was wearing a black collar with no tags. She is not microchipped. After officials noticed she was lactating, they believe she has puppies under the age of four weeks.

SPCA Shelter Manager Jenny Sherwood and SPCA Pet Behavior Specialist Amanda Mouisset took Molly back to the area in an effort to locate her puppies Thursday. Although Molly seemed familiar with the area, she did not lead Jenny and Amanda to a specific location. After two hours, the thin dog grew tired and the search party returned to the shelter.

The SPCA is asking anyone in the community who might recognize Molly to please contact us with any information that could reunite her with her puppies.

The SPCA has not received any lost dog reports matching Molly's description. The SPCA also checked lost dog reports with Seaside Police Department but no matches were located there, either.

If a confirmed owner cannot be found, Molly will be placed in a loving home after she regains her health. She is receiving kind and compassionate care at the SPCA.
