Familiar Face Sworn-in as Police Officer in Hollister

Posted: Updated:

HOLLISTER, Calif. - The Hollister Police Department has hired a new police officer, who has ties to the community.  William Hutchison from Hollister was sworn in on Monday, as the newest member of the Hollister Police Department.

Hutchison attended local schools and graduated from the San Benito High School. He was a local businessman prior to becoming a San Benito County Sheriff Deputy in 2009.

In August of 2012, William Hutchison was laid off from the Sheriff's Office along with other fellow deputies. The layoffs were due to budget cuts at the Sheriff's Office.

Hutchison applied with the Hollister Police Department soon after the November election in which Measure E was passed. The passage of Measure E insured continued funding of public safety personnel in Hollister.

Officer Hutchison will complete a comprehensive training program prior to being released as a solo officer.  The Hollister Police Department currently has four additional police officer openings to fill as a result of the passage of Measure E.

Anyone interested in applying is asked to pick up an application at City Hall, 375 Fifth Street or at the Hollister Police Department or the website at www.hollister.ca.gov
