Santa Cruz County Supervisors Pass 45 Day Moratorium to Freeze Any Gun Shop Plans

Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif- The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors, in a unanimous decision, approved a 45 day moratorium which places an immediate hold on any pending gun retailers looking to open up shop in unincorporated areas of Santa Cruz County.

That 45 day moratorium is so county supervisors can meet with the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department, County Planning Department officials, local gun retailers and the public to discuss long term regulations for gun shops and clubs in the county.

The county is analyzing whether or not they need stricter regulations than what is imposed federally and by the state.

The whole reason for the county passing the moratorium came after a business owner was in the planning stages of opening up a new gun store in the El Rancho Shopping Center in Live Oak.

So far, the business owner had submitted for permits with the Planning Commission.

That project is now on hold, according to the moratorium.

All of this comes after the recent, national focus on gun control laws.
