SALINAS, Calif. - Gabriela D'Arrigo from the D'Arrigo Brothers of California said the freezing temperatures create a balancing act with their product.
"With the cold fields and not being able to harvest, or not having anything to harvest, cause we had to harvest everything early with the perfect weather," explained D'Arrigo.
She said the cold weather normally hits the Salinas Valley at the same time so its something that growers prepare.
"For the most part, we have had a lot of practice in the Salinas Valley doing this, most growers have been doing this for years and years so you are going to come up on some difficult times but for the most part they try to keep it as routine as possible."
Some growers say the way they keep their crops from freezing is by adding water to help with the frost.
"Its kind of like when you have frost on your window, you aren't going to sit there and scrap it off or damage it so you pour water on it."
D'arrigo said the product may take a turn for the worst on the way it looks but it doesn't affect the taste.
"It doesn't take away from the taste, the most its going to take away from is appearance."
