WASHINGTON D.C. -- The LA Times is reporting that President Obama is expected to nominate former Republican senator Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense.

Talks of Hagel being nominated for the defense position has interest groups and lawmakers clashing over his view on Israel and Iran.

White House officials on Friday said the president hasn't formally offered the job to the former Vietnam veteran, but others familiar with the process are saying an announcement could come very soon.
