SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. -- CBS has confirmed the body of missing Petaluma teen, Alyssa Byrne, was found Friday morning by a utility worker. She went missing on New Year's Eve.
CBS 13 said the Douglas County Sheriff's Office held a new conference with the update. Deputies said the 19-year old was found over a snowbank off Pioneer trail around 8:30 a.m. Officers said Byrne's body was found just 10 feet from the highway.
Deputies said Alyssa was attending the SnowGlobe music festival at Lake Tahoe Community College. Investigators said Alyssa left her friends on a shuttle bus and decided to walk home. Her body was found just five miles from the hotel where she was staying.
Deputies said temperatures that night were as low as 0 to 10 degrees.
More than 100 volunteers went out to search for the missing teen, including members from the Klaas Kids Foundation.
