Charging Stations Installed at Monterey Peninsula Airport

Posted: Updated:

MONTEREY, Calif. - The Monterey Regional Airport now provides a convenient way for passengers to recharge their electronics (laptops, cell phones, i-Pads) with a creative in-seat outlet. The power packs are mounted under twenty-four select seats, located in the West Hold room near Gates 4 and 5 in the Terminal Building.

In addition, three Level-2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations have been installed in the Airport's parking lots for airport customers and anyone visiting the Peninsula. These Airport location add to a growing regional network for EV drivers. The Airport's EV chargers are strategically designed to relieve potential "range anxiety" that EV owners may experience and to spur the adoption of electric vehicles.

There is no fee to "plug-in" to one of the Airport's charging stations, which work with any electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid on the market.

Partial funding for the charging stations was made possible through a grant awarded by the California Energy Commission. The installation was accomplished through a cooperative effort: Monterey Regional Airport, Ecology Action, Clean Fuel Connection, Monterey Bay Electric Vehicle Alliance, and Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG). The Airport funded the balance of the installation.
