Roses Parade Uses Damaged Flowers From Tornado

Posted: Updated:

PASADENA, Calif. -- On Tuesday, the annual tournament of Roses Parade kicked off in Pasadena.

This year's theme was "Oh, the places you'll go." It featured colorful floral floats, marching bands and equestrian performances.

Some dedicated fans camped along the parade route overnight to get the best spot to watch the 124th annual parade.

Flowers damaged from a rare tornado at a Watsonville nursery last month were actually used on a parade float called Tuxedo Air that featured penguins trying to fly.

The flowers, about 3,000 daisies, couldn't be sold so the business owners donated them to the Cal Poly entry.

The float won the Bob Hope Humor Trophy for most comical and amusing.
