WATSONVILLE, Calif. - NOAA and the National Weather Service confirmed a rare tornado touched down in Watsonville after a five-day investigation.
NOAA said a waterspout formed over the Monterey Bay early Saturday momrning, crossed the beach, then moved inland while forming into a tornado, hitting Watsonville with 75 mile per hour winds.
Luckily, the three-minute-long tornado, which was hardly more than a mile wide, whirled across farmland, so nobody was injured.
Several commercial greenhouses took the brunt of the damage. Several trees and power poles were also ripped out of the ground.
