SC House Lights Up the Sky With Holiday Cheer

Posted: Updated:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -"I think they can see it from outer space, actually," Gerry Paris, a Santa Cruz resident, who stopped by to take pictures.

What Gerry Paris is talking about is Tess Wood's house on Raymond Street in downtown Santa Cruz.

Wood and her family have been decorating their house for 5 years and she said it started with her mom's Christmas spirit.

"My mom started decorating for my son and my nephew and now for the community cause everybody stops by for the lights," explained Wood.

She said it's a family effort and it helps get everyone in the holiday spirit.

"Myself and my son put together the little ones that we can put up myself and my uncle and my mom supervises."

They say it takes about a week to get them down, two weeks to put them up and then all the magic begins just by flipping a switch.

But the holiday cheer comes with a cost.

"It used to be about a thousand dollars, but now we are getting it lower to like 800 or 700," said Wood.

Susan Villines has lived next door for three years and said she looks forward to it every year.

"The kids come by, they hear the music and the little Santas and everything up there they are smiling. I like it every year and it puts a smile on my face," Villines told me.
