Felton Residents Cleaning Up After San Lorenzo Flood

Posted: Updated:

FELTON, Calif. - This small community is cleaning up today after the San Lorenzo River flooded it's streets.

"We are just a small, private road community and we have to clean the streets ourselves so we are hoping the storm can just rinse things off," said Rachel Williams, a long time Felton Grove native.

Rachel and Vicki Wees have lived here through several historic floods.

"I've lived the history yes, I was in the 82 flood, the 98 flood, pretty much all the floods we've had," said Wees.

When I asked what the water looked like, Rachel said, "It really comes in fast. Its just flowing down the street."

Those that live in the area were urged to evacuate last night as the river came over the banks but seasoned veterans chose to stay.

"We opted to stay and not evacuate cause sometimes its harder to get back in the house once you leave," Williams said.

Newcomers like Bill Rose said he wasn't taking any chances.

"We came back in an hour to two hours at the most after that."

He said he will be watching the river as the next series of storms come through.

"I think I'm going to go down and get some sandbags so it doesn't get inside but I'm hoping it doesn't get that high," explained Rose.
