SALINAS, Calif. -- Police are investigating what they're calling a gang-related shooting in the parking lot area of the Acosta Plaza Complex Tuesday night.
According to Salinas Police, two male victims ages 19 and 22 were sitting in their vehicle at the Acosta Plaza, when they heard several shots coming from behind them. Both victims were able to duck and were not struck by gunfire. Police say their vehicle was hit once on the right front door panel.
Police say both victims left the scene, but investigators later contacted them for statements. Officers who were already in the area on unrelated business responded and saw two people running southbound toward Acosta Plaza. They conducted searches of the area but were unable to find the suspects.
According to police, they did find several large caliber bullet casings on the track area of Jesse Sanchez Elementary School, just across the wrought iron fence from the Acosta Plaza Complex, and it appears to have been where the shots were fired from.
